Star Wars: The Morning After
The Galactic Core
|The Core is the center and hub of galactic civilization. It is the home of Coruscant, the locus of power of the Empire and the Old Republic before that. Unlike the Outer Rim, its worlds were some of the most prestigious, well-developed, well-known, and heavily populated planets in the galaxy. |
In astrophysical terms, the Core denoted the central area of the galaxy, and in broad terms this was true enough, but the precise usage of the term was sometimes more complex. The major Rimward hyperlanes radiated outwards around little more than half the galactic disk, and the Core Worlds occupied a C-shaped region of space around the Deep Core, the heart of the astrophysical core.
In the Core, small-time spacers are usually outcompeted by mass cargo haulers and spaceliners that transport goods and people in large quantities for much more efficient costs. It is also more difficult for those who live on the edge of the law, or at least have trouble keeping their BoSS registrations up to date. Regulations are usually tight and officials less corrupt, though over the decades of Imperial rule, it has become increasingly easier to slip a customs official a few credits in order to facilitate matters. Still, they are much more expensive than elsewhere and more difficult to circumnavigate.
